Day 8 (July 23) - LAKE NAIVASHA - After breakfast we will embark on one final game drive through Nakuru before heading to our new destination. After leaving the park, a short drive south will find us by the gleaming shores of Lake Naivasha. This lake is different from most of the alkaline lakes that dot the Rift Valley in that it is strictly a freshwater one. It was at this lake that the late Joy Adamson sat beneath the fig trees of her estate, Elsamere and wrote the critically acclaimed novel "Born Free". Our accommodations for the night will be at the elite Lake Naivasha Country Club. The club's lushly landscaped grounds adjoin the lake's acacia-studded shoreline, creating myriad photographic possibilities from images of colorful flowers to shots of the herds of waterbuck that freely roam the area.

This afternoon we will depart on a boat cruise of Lake Naivasha, where we will be brought in close proximity to a variety of shorebirds and pods of snorting hippos. We will land on nearby Crescent Island where, led by an experienced ranger, we can experience the thrill of viewing wild game on foot. With no large predators on the island, the antelope and zebra that can make the swim from the mainland enjoy a bounty of grass and bush to feed upon. We may even spot one of Africa's smallest antelope here - the tiny 14"-tall dik-dik. After our return to the lodge we will grab some shots as the sun sets over the lake after which we will sit down to a sumptuous dinner. Overnight Lake Naivasha Country Club (B, L, D)
