Maasai Children Peering From School Window, Maasailand

Nikon F4s, Sigma 17-35mm Lens, Kodak E100SW Film

"It was interesting to see this new generation of Maasai learning of modern ways, but on the same note, it is sad to watch them abandon old traditions in favor of progress. I am so thankful that I have been given the opportunity to meet Nysangyo, see the moran, witness ceremonies, for I realize that they are a part of a dying breed. The tides are turning - and just as the Maasai would slay the mighty lion in times past, in a cruel twist of irony, they have today, become that lion. Watching the elders and the few that still cling hopelessly to the past, is like watching the slain lion as it lies in a helpless, crumpled heap - all its strength, all its nobility and dignity stripped, forever taken. As the lion dies, so too does his illustrious past."
